Quick Update on Rash

Brandon still has the rash, after the entire five-day course of antibiotics the doctor gave to my SIL for him. Now my little 2yo niece has it coming on, too. They're going back to the doctor today. She said that it's a little better, but nowhere near gone. I really wish he had been able to see his regular doctor the first time, the one who knows how serious things tend to get with him - he's been in the hospital twice with just regular colds because they get so bad that he gets dehydrated within days. CRAP.

I am sorry that he is not better and that his sister may have it too. I am praying they all get better soon. And if you want my 2 cents....

You may push to have it cultured so you know what you are fihting against. Even after 5 days of antibiotics, MRSA will grow as the antibiotics did not work. Really, it should have been better after 2 days. And for MRSA they usually prescribe Bactrim or clindamycin. Some also use Bactrim in combination with doxycycline. I don't know what your nephew was on, but we've been seeing a lot of family practice docs prescribing amoxicillin, which will do nothing for MRSA. And if your niece has it too, they may think about treating the whole family with bactroban topical (you put it in your nose) to get rid of them carrying the bacteria. I hope it is not MRSA.
